Meet Mardy the Duck™

Mardy is a teenage duckling growing up on a small farm inspired by Ohio’s Amish Country, where muddy paths, rainy afternoons, open fields, and a very tempting pond are simply part of everyday life.

Unfortunately, Mardy has never been particularly interested in doing things the way an ordinary duck is supposed to.

His mum is American, his dad is British, and somehow Mardy inherited a little more of Dad than the rest of the flock. There’s a faint British twist to his quack, a naturally dry sense of humor, and an impressive ability to look thoroughly unimpressed by almost anything.

That makes him stand out.

So do the boots.

Mardy is rarely seen without his bright blue Wellies covered in white daisies. They once belonged to his older sister, who gave them to him when she outgrew them. The other ducks found this endlessly amusing.

Mardy did not.

Well…perhaps a little.

But he loves those Wellies. More importantly, unlike practically every other duck in existence, Mardy cannot stand the feeling of cold mud squishing between his webbed toes. Wet feet, muddy feet, exposed feet—none of it appeals to him.

Which is admittedly inconvenient when you live on a farm and happen to be a duck.

Over time, being the duck who sounded different, dressed differently, and behaved differently taught Mardy how to handle unwanted opinions.

Usually with a side-eye.

Occasionally with sarcasm.

And almost always with something to say.

That’s how Mardy became Mardy: a little brooding, a little dramatic, frequently sarcastic, and generally suspicious of unnecessary enthusiasm.

But underneath all that attitude is a thoughtful, loyal duck who loves his family fiercely—even if he would rather wade through the pond without Wellies than actually admit it.

Mardy isn’t trying to fit in anymore.

He likes his boots.

He likes his peculiarities.

And if somebody has a problem with that?

Well…
